Terms of Service

What Wakeful does

Wakeful watches things on a schedule and tells you when one of them breaks. Four kinds of check:

• cron — a scheduled job pings us; we alert if the ping stops arriving.
• http — we request a URL and alert if it stops answering successfully.
• ssl — we check a certificate and warn before it expires.
• dns — we resolve a record and alert if it changes or disappears.

Alerts go to email, Slack, Discord, Telegram, or LINE, depending on what you've enabled in settings.

Your account

• You're responsible for what happens under your account, including keeping your sign-in secure.
• Only monitor things you own or have permission to check. Don't point Wakeful at someone else's infrastructure to probe it.
• Don't use the service to attack, overload, or scan systems, or to do anything illegal.
• One person or team per account. Automated abuse of the check scheduler will get the account suspended.

Plans and limits

• Free — up to 3 monitors, checked every 5 minutes, 7 days of check history.
• Paid — unlimited monitors, checked every minute, 90 days of check history.

These limits can change as the service develops. If a change would reduce what you're already paying for, you'll hear about it before it takes effect.

Payment and billing

• Paid plans are subscriptions billed through Stripe. Wakeful never sees or stores your card details.
• Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel.
• Cancel anytime from the billing portal in settings. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for, then drops back to free.
• Refunds aren't automatic, but ask. If the service failed you, say so and it'll be sorted out.
• If a payment fails, the account moves back to the free plan until it's resolved. Monitors above the free limit stay in place but stop being checked at the paid interval.

No uptime guarantee

This is the part worth reading twice. Wakeful is a side project, not a company with an on-call rota. There is no SLA, no guaranteed uptime, and no promise that a check runs on time or that an alert reaches you.

Checks can be delayed or missed. Alerts can fail to deliver if email, Slack, Discord, Telegram, or LINE is having a bad day. Don't make Wakeful the only thing standing between you and an outage that would seriously hurt — treat it as one signal among several.

Limitation of liability

The service is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind. Wakeful isn't liable for losses arising from a missed check, a late alert, an undelivered notification, downtime, or data loss.

Where liability can't be excluded, it's capped at what you paid in the 12 months before the claim — which, on the free plan, is nothing.

Termination

• You can stop using Wakeful and delete your account at any time.
• Accounts abusing the service, or using it for anything illegal, can be suspended or removed without notice.
• If Wakeful shuts down, you'll get as much notice as circumstances allow, and a chance to export your monitor configuration before the data goes.

Changes to these terms

These terms will change as the service grows. Substantive changes will be announced by email to the address on your account. Continuing to use Wakeful after a change means you accept the updated terms.
